Why I shoot Boudoir Photography?
As a female boudoir photographer with a boudoir studio in Los Angeles, my journey into photography began during my years as a hairstylist, starting at the young age of 16. Witnessing the transformative power of a well-styled haircut and color on a woman's confidence intrigued me deeply. However, I found that the confines of a salon chair were not enough to satiate my creative curiosity. Thus, my exploration into fashion photography for hair commenced, leading me to enroll in photography classes and ultimately falling head over heels for the craft.
In 1992, I made the life-changing move from the UK to Los Angeles, USA. Though I initially dabbled in photography part-time, it wasn't until years later, after settling into my new environment, that I reignited my passion for capturing moments through the lens. A pivotal moment came during my photography studies, where an assignment tasked me with capturing the beauty of the nude form. It was during this exploration that I stumbled upon the art of boudoir photography, a revelation that resonated deeply with me.
As a woman who has grappled with body image issues, particularly in a city like Los Angeles where perfection seems omnipresent, I found myself empathizing with the insecurities of my clients. This empathy fueled my desire to help women rediscover their confidence and redefine their self-image through the art of boudoir photography.
My formal introduction to boudoir came through an online class taught by a renowned photographer from NYC. Since officially launching Unbuttoned Photography in 2010, my mission has been to empower women through the lens, fostering a safe space for self-expression and self-love. Over the years, I've had the privilege of witnessing profound transformations in my clients, from survivors of abuse reclaiming their sense of self-worth to everyday women embracing their beauty in all its forms.
For me, boudoir photography transcends the mere capture of "sexy" images; it's about embracing vulnerability, celebrating individuality, and discovering beauty in every curve and contour.
